Travellers fact; all Mexicans, men, women and children, pick their nose and wipe it on the nearest available surface. They also enjoy a decent spit. Not quite as spitty a race as the Chinese to be fair, but the texture of an average sidewalk I’d say is on the whole, a bit flobby.
So Veracruz, I like. A wee bit low rent in places, but it has a nice (if not outstanding) beach, it’s a locals town and therefore authentic, and the sun is finally shining rather than it just being cloudy and hot. They also serve the beer like a deconstructed cocktail, which I also like, but have no clue how to reconstruct.
I’m just beginning to get to the good stuff I think. I have traveled 3000 miles in 3 weeks and that’s a hell of a lot of bus miles - but it is also roughly 3/4 of the miles I intended to do on this journey, so I can stop in places, nice places, for longer. I’m also going to be joining the backpacker trail soon, so I’ll be able to meet up with of folk and stop tripping over my own feet trying to find where all the funky stuff is. I did the Silk Road this way around, hard stuff first, easy stuff later, and I remember now why I swore I’d reverse the order on any subsequent trip. Anyway, what’s done is done. It has felt a bit stressful up until now, for lots of reasons, but now the sun is shining and surf is erm... surfing, I feel as though I can stop furrowing my brow a bit.
Good beach, but I know I'll find better.
Mexico still holds the world record for the largest pork scratching ever recorded as you can see. Well because of my shit photography, maybe you can't see. But this is basically an entire roasted pig skin in a bag. Tempting, but after the USA, I decided to be good.
